Objectively, with sanity rules in play, Lich King should win this one. It’s a guy that mops up armies of WOW PCs vs a guy that lost to Huan the wolfhound and had to spend life as an eyeball on top of a tower because he got his finger cut off by a human. He even has the better army. What’s a bunch of orcs that had to be bolstered by not-Muslim mercenaries going to do to against an army of the dead? Lose, of course, it’s what they did against the big green ghost army. This fight really shouldn’t be Sauron vs Lich King. Lich King needs someone more powerful to fight, like Vecna.

 

Well, maybe not Vecna. That’s a stomp in the other direction. Maybe someone like Acerzerak. Strahd maybe? Play up the tragic, fallen heroes angle?

 

But of course, there’s the X-factor of Swank.

 

These guys are Fetterman voters. You got to lower yourself to their level and figure out how they think to predict their verdicts.

 

This fight’s interesting because its the first time DB has touched either franchises. We don’t really know what they think about either the way we know what they think about Dragon Ball or Marvel or DC. Sauron could pull off the upset here. It’s an unconfirmed rumor, but people have said that Swank believes in galaxy level Sauron through the silmaril, sacred stones which contain stars.

 

But I feel that both Sauron and Lich King will be swanked far above their actual power levels in keeping with the trend. Consider that out of 13 fights, 7 have involved characters given multiverse levels of power, I say it’s very likely we’re going to see the both of them swanked way beyond what they’re actually capable of doing. So I anticipate the obvious power gap between the two characters to narrow, but not to the point it would flip. Consider that setting plays a big part in Swank. The bigger and more convoluted a setting’s cosmology is, the more powerful its characters. It’s why at the highest power settings, it goes DC=Marvel>Archie Sonic>Dragon Ball>Sailor Moon…though keep in mind, they probably have DC as slightly more powerful than Marvel at the tip-top just going off Wanda vs Zatanna. It’s hard to argue equality when you have a character that’s an essential part of the multiverse’s functioning lose to a mid-level magic user. I think in that really lame Dark Crisis on Infinite Rehash thing going on Harbringer ended up creating an infinite multiverse inside the infinite multiverse or something. I don’t know, but I bet swankers have it filed away for power level arguments. The point is, when your setting has a big fancy mandala map with a bunch of realms of infinite cosmic yadda-yadda, you get over on the guys that don’t, and WOW has a setting that’s pretty much a copy of Dungeons and Dragons down to the elemental planes surrounded by planes of order and chaos. I’m sure you can shake more infinites out of that cosmology than Tolkien’s.

 

Assume for the sake of argument that they make Sauron and Lich King about equal in power levels. Then we got a Black Adam vs Apocalypse scenario where Lich King wins off having more abilities and abilities that counter Sauron’s own. Sauron can still fight as a ghost without his body? Lich King’s sword eats souls. Sauron can cast illusions and control minds? Lich King’s helmet does mind control magic. Sauron can’t directly summon orcs to help him while Lich King just has to will it so and minions appear to fight by his side. Sauron isn’t an expert fighter and in fact has a bad track record when it comes to face-to-face encounters while Lich King was a master swordsman before he even became the Lich King.

 

And Lich King doesn’t lose his powers when you cut off his finger, unlike Sauron.

 

The only way I can see Sauron winning is for him to get the Swank advantage. Like, Swank makes him universe level because the silmaril hav stars in them and Lich King ends up merely planet level. Could that happen? Maybe. Swank did compare Sauron’s soul to Darkseid’s platonic body. But I don’t think its likely. I think Lich King has this.

Lich King is so screwed. Like Dio vs Alucard levels screwed.
