On one hand, the Demon Realm serves the purposes of siphoning away the natural negative energy of other worlds. On the other hand, demons are an unruly, violent, destructive race, and what is more they find it relatively easy to travel from world to world.

 

Demons come when they are summoned and cut deals with all sorts unsavory people. Demons have propped up tyrants in exchange for their souls. They have empowered madmen, enslaved worlds, and decimated universes. When you feed on evil, you are naturally incentivized to create as much evil as possible.

 

If someone wants to do something bad, there’s a demon out there who wants to help them, and that makes the Demon Realm very dangerous for the multiverse community. Demons are also known to seek out worlds with low Astral connections and few hyperstatics as such mundane worlds make their supernatural gifts all the more tempting. Demon are smart, organized, well-connected, and have a vested interest in increasing the amount of evil in the world.

Demons find it hilarious that we classify their world as belonging to the Astral light instead of the Astral dark.

Our terms “Astral light and Astral dark,” also known as “unconscious Astral and conscious Astral,” are derived from the radiant descent model of the cosmos where Astral energy is generated by and molded by the Eye of Light at the Summit of All Things, shines down upon the multiverse, and gradually breaks away from the control of the Eye.

 

In the higher unconscious Astral, Astral energy seeks out thought–any thought–to animate it. This gives rise to dreamworlds and thoughtforms. In the lower conscious Astral, Astral energy is so far removed from the Eye and any source of thought that it begins to degrade, mutate, and develop thoughts of its own. This gives rise to worlds such as Fairy and Cosmos, worlds of syncretic resonance. Every being in the Astral dark is a reflection of another being, and when they dream they dream of the lives lived by their others, their syncretic others.

 

Demons are bound to thought and emotions. Negative, evil essence constitutes their being. It is their food. It is their power. They are essentially highly complex thoughtforms. They are to beings like Mad Mary and Donald Swift’s “parents” what protozoa are to multi-cellular organisms.

 

Being a world of the Astral light means that, in theory, outside thoughts could influence the Demon Realm. If a person with enough evil in their heart entered the Demon Realm, they could potentially alter its reality in any way they saw fit. But such a person would have to be extraordinarily, legendarily evil, and would have to compete with beings who have evolved over countless aeons to better absorb and utilize evil essence.

The Demon Realm shares a connection with countless realities. The natural ebb and flow of the Demon Realm through macrospace absorbs evil essence from neighboring worlds and demons can use these currents of essence to travel across the multiverse. Journeying to other realities, typically via a summoning ritual cast by someone looking for powers or favors, is an important element of demonic culture. Weak demons never leave the demon realm and passively absorb the essence radiating from other worlds, but any demon worth anything in Demon Realm society goes to other realms to suck up negative essence straight from its source–human evil.

The Demon Realm is a covalent reality, meaning it is a reality that naturally connects to other universes in such a way that forms a multiversal super-structure. The Demon Realm’s multiversal connections are critical to the natural functioning of its inhabitants. As it moves through macrospace, it siphons off evil essence from neighboring worlds, feeding the demons that call it home. No covalent movement, no siphoning, and no demons.

 

Evil essence suffuses the universe, giving it the prima materia keyword. Beings that find themselves in the Demon Realm may be overwhelmed by the shear evil of the place which hangs like a thick, oppressive miasma, though people skilled in channeling negative thoughts may find the universe empowering. Dr. Bell would likely become much more powerful if transported to the Demon Realm.

 

The Demon Realm is classified as belligerent owing to the hostile attitude many of its inhabitants have towards the outside multiverse. Demons are interested in harvesting negative energy abroad and to that end work with summoners, offering supernatural favors in exchange for essence, maybe even an entire soul to be converted into essence. In the name of upholding their end of the bargain, demons have done a lotttttt of bad things, and this is why their realm has the forbidden keyword. Only ARGO diplomats and certain verified specialists are allowed to make contact with the Demon Realm. Everyone else needs to stay away from it.

 

It is against ARGO order 866 to summon a demon. If you want to summon a succubus, DON’T DO IT! Rather, send a prayer to one of the angels of Monad. They will give you what you need, and what you need is better than what you want.

As this world moves through macrospace, it absorbs the evil essence from nearby universes. In this way, this world is an essential part of several universes’ natural equilibrium. If it did not exist, other worlds would be overwhelmed by the a build-up of negative energy.

 

The demons who give this world its name spring into life as shadowy, relatively formless imps who passively absorb the evil essence that permeates their world. Eventually, enough essence is absorbed for the imp to evolve into a true demon who seeks out essence in other realms. True demons are specialized to gather certain types of evil essence. Asmodei feed on violence and bloodshed, Mammonites on greed, and Succubi feed on lust and indulgence, particularly of a lascivious character.

 

To fulfill their hunger for evil essence, demons enlist the aid of summoners from throughout the multiverse. The summoner trades essence, sometimes at the cost of their own soul, for favors. The Asmodei give the services of elite assassins, the Mammonites money and resources, and the Succubi give exactly what you think they do.

 

Summoners only want one thing, and it’s disgusting.

The Demon Realm has been identified as one of the many worlds containing Verboten fragments. Where exactly the fragments are in this world is unknown, we only know that they’re somewhere in this world. Perhaps its being used as a power source by a powerful demon lord? Or maybe it’s an imp’s strange keepsake. Time will tell…

A recently evolved succubus who had the misfortune of being born misshaped, Demonica, usually called Monica, is deeply troubled by her place in the universe. When demons evolve horns, the symmetry and size of the horns correlate with power and ability. Monica’s, being asymmetrical, indicate that she evolved wrong, and further proof comes from her habit of over-purification. She feels drawn to purge herself of evil essence, even when doing so too frequently can be bad for a demon’s health.

 

Carrying on with her natural desire to feed on essence rather than passively absorb it like an imp could help her, but she’s hesitant, as the form of feeding succubi use is rather intimate, to say the least.
